WHAT TO EXPECT
With Gretchen Dezelick, RN
THE PLANNING STAGE
How long should I expect to stay in the Bahamas for my treatment?
>>Gretchen Dezelick: Generally, our patients stay three days. You arrive on the day of your preoperative appointment, then the second day is the day of your procedure and the third day will be your post-op appointment. And once you’re discharged after your post-op appointment, you’re free to travel home.
What about travel to Okyanos? What should I do?
>>Gretchen Dezelick: If you and the person you’re coming with need help with travel arrangements, we have a patient concierge that can help you with flights, ground transportation and hotel accommodations. We actually recommend the Grand Lucayan Resort, which is about ten minutes away from our facility and has everything that you’ll need during your stay.
What can I expect from the staff to help me get comfortable and oriented?
>>Gretchen Dezelick: We are there every step of the way for you. We pick you up at the airport. You’re assigned a patient liaison. You’ll be assigned a nurse, an RN, from the very beginning. You’ll have our phone numbers, you can call us 24/7. We’re just very easily accessible.
Can my doctor communicate directly with the Okyanos team?
>>Gretchen Dezelick: Absolutely. Your physician can phone us at any time. We actually welcome communication with patients’ physicians and we like the sharing of information. It’s best for the patient and it’s also good for us.
