Meet The Medical Team: Stephanie Mortimer-Wallace, RN, BSN, CCRN
>>STEPHANIE MORTIMER-WALLACE: The thing that I enjoy most about being here day-to-day is the contact I have with patients, learning about their needs, their plight with their diseases, their issues and just having them come and being treated and then following up with them.
Stephanie provides direct, pre- and post-operative patient care at Okyanos.
>>STEPHANIE MORTIMER-WALLACE: When our patients arrive here at Okyanos, I think the one thing that is most happy for them at that point is when they’re able to put a name to a face. Because as the nurse, we walk out and we greet them in the lobby, and they’re excited because now I see who I’ve been talking to for the last few weeks.
When our patients walk through the door, we ensure that they’re fit for their procedure. We do all our pre-op tests. We check their vital signs. And on the day of their procedure, we take them back, they have their procedure and they come out.
The nurse is with them when they go to sleep, and she is with them when they awake. And she’s with them the whole time. Once they come for their post-op visit, the same nurse is with them. So, it’s an amazing experience because they’re not changing faces. The same nurse is with them.
We see them at their discharge. We speak to them at one week. We speak to them at one month, three months, six months and again at 12 months. And those are the things that set us aside from the conventional hospital, in that, we keep our patient relationships going.
