Nancy, 64

Ketchum, Idaho
Treated at Okyanos in September, 2016

Nancy began exploring the treatment option of cell therapy for arthritis after attending an Okyanos educational event in her area. Here, Nancy shares what intrigued her about the opportunity to harness her body’s own healing capacity and gives a glimpse of the increase in function, mobility, energy and quality of life she has experienced.

Nancy's Results - Cell Therapy for Arthritis | Okyanos

Nancy at a recent pilates session, approximately 8 months post-cell therapy for arthritis.

“After listening to two presentations on the Stem Cell surgery at Okyanos, I was determined to sign up for the surgery as soon as possible. I had rashes on the back of my head and neck and on the palm of one hand, which were directly related to a very emotionally disturbing two years prior. I also had early arthritis in the base of both thumbs and a very sharp pain in one knee that could take me down at any time. The most important reason that I desired the Okyanos Stem Cell surgery is because my own body would be healing my body. There is no greater advantage.

“Eight days following my surgery I went outdoors to my pool where closure items for the winter were kept. I did not use my pool this past summer and therefore had not done the weekly cleaning and sweeping around the pool. I finished cleaning the area and then proceeded to sweep up pine cones and leaves all the way around the pool. It was amazing that I had so much energy to do what I had not been able to accomplish all summer.

“My thumb knuckles and knee were injected. Prior to going to Okyanos, I had purchased a special instrument to open bottles as I was in too much pain to even turn the bottle cap of a San Pellegrino bottle or a Fiji water bottle. Returning home post-surgery I have never used the special instrument again as I am able to open every bottle and jar. My knee has had no more of the shooting pain, which was bad enough to have me fall when it occurred. The skin rashes have diminished greatly and are almost gone.

“One month post-surgery I was in town doing errands when four different individuals came up to me and said, ‘Nancy, you are glowing! Your face, your eyes, and your skin are absolutely glowing! What is your secret?’ I do not see that in the mirror, so I was grateful for that confirmation times four. My thinking, recall of names, memory, and ability to be mentally sharp and very present in the moment have all increased significantly.

“I am beyond thrilled with the results of having Stem Cell surgery at Okyanos and would highly recommend it.”

Okyanos Cell Therapy for Arthritis, Inflammation and Pain

Though osteoarthritis (OA) has traditionally been classified as a non-inflammatory arthritis or “wear-and-tear arthritis,” the similarities between inflammatory arthritis (such as rheumatoid) and degenerative arthritis have become more clear. Inflammation as well as ongoing immune responses within arthritic joints present a number of opportunities for stem cells to provide a benefit.

Body fat possesses an abundant source of powerful adult stem cells. These cells, known as mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), are often referred to as small “doctors” for their ability to repair dysfunction in the body. The power of stem cell therapy for arthritis lies in the fact that MSCs are able not only to promote repair and regeneration in tissues, but also to address arthritis more broadly by:

  • Targeting chronic inflammation
  • Halting abnormal immune responses
  • Addressing microvascular dysfunction and improving blood flow
  • Reducing scar which may form after surgery or post-joint injury
