Marcel, 61
Encino, CA
Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and Torn Rotator Cuff
Treated at Okyanos February, 2016

Like many with rheumatoid arthritis pain, Marcel was misdiagnosed at the first sign of her symptoms. She was eventually diagnosed with RA and her condition steadily worsened, causing her to live more than 10 years with pain that kept her awake at night. A friend referred her to Okyanos for a chance at relief and a better quality of life.

The Pain Stopped Me From Thinking

Marcel Rheumatoid Arthritis Pain

An artist, Marcel can now do her work without the thought-stopping pain she previously had.

“I am very happy I had the stem cell therapy at Okyanos. I learned about it from a friend who had a complete recovery of his knee after going to Okyanos. He knew I had lots of pain and he recommended Okyanos to me.

“The most pain I had was in my hands, and now I don’t have pain in my hands. That is a miracle by itself as I got rid of the pain that was stopping me from thinking and also sleeping at night. I now go to bed without even thinking about my hands.

“I was a swimmer when I was younger and still love to swim. In fact, swimming was the only way I got relief from the pain. I was first diagnosed with osteoarthritis but as my symptoms got worse I was then diagnosed with RA about 10 years ago. I have had total hip replacement, two-level spinal fusion and shoulder surgery for a torn rotator cuff. I remained with a lot of hand pain, joint pain and some lower back pain. While my right hip was fine after the replacement, I was unable to sleep on the left hip and had pain when walking. I had neck stiffness and pain. I was taking a low dose of Plaquenil and getting occasional cortisone injections but was not really sure if they had any effect. I also had nodules and deformities on both thumbs.

“I was treated at Okyanos about 7 months ago with an IV of stem cells plus 11 different injections. After my treatment, I can do my artwork without pain in my hands and I love it!!! Besides my improvement in my hands, now I can sleep on the left hip as it doesn’t wake me up from pain. My right shoulder is better and continuing to improve. My neck is also no longer in pain. I am more energetic as the level of the pain is better. I can swim faster as my back is better so I don’t have to be as careful with it. My thumb nodules and deformities are much better. I am not taking cortisone injections or any pain medications. I feel better. I get compliments from people. They say, ‘You look better… You are walking better.’

“Okyanos is absolutely fantastic. The nurses and doctors were doing perfectly what they were supposed to do. That was all I was asking them to do. I can not say anything other than ‘perfect.’ They are giving everyone peace of mind.”

A Comprehensive Approach to Rheumatoid Arthritis Pain

RA is a disease of many different factors, including inflammation, worsening degeneration of joints and crippling pain all as a result of abnormal immune system responses. Stem cell therapy is well-rounded approach to rheumatoid arthritis pain, because the treatment utilizes regenerative cells harvested from adipose (fat) tissue which are known to:

  • Address inflammation
  • Stimulate tissue repair/regeneration
  • Prevent further premature cell and tissue death
  • Reduce scarring
  • Modulate abnormal immune responses, as are present in RA
