Janis, 69
Indiatlantic, FL
Neck Pain, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Neuropathy & Fibromyalgia
Treated at Okyanos May, 2016

Those who live with chronic pain often find their health issues compounded by a number of related difficulties. For Janis, neck pain became a part of daily living more than 40 years ago. Following that she struggled with neuropathy as well as rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and, in recent years, widespread fibromyalgia pain. After multiple surgeries, many sleepless nights and feelings of hopelessness, Janis turned to stem cells for neck pain as well as her other complex medical issues, seeking a chance at a better life.

“I am gardening again…”

Stem Cells for Neck Pain“Even though I heard about stem cell therapy from my son Steve, I was cautious about it—but I was in so much pain that I was kind of at the end. I figured at my age I had another 10-15 years and I didn’t want to keep suffering like that. I did my independent reading about stem cells and Okyanos. I felt everything was positive. You get to a point where you don’t know what is going to come next… Now my outlook is 100% better.

“I am 69 years old and my medical history has been very difficult. In 1972, I had a surgery-happy doctor who removed the L3 and then the following year removed L4, which left me bone-on-bone. In 1976, I did a fusion of my neck but it failed and ended up bone-on-bone. Then in 1978, I had the back re-fused to L5 and sacrum. These surgeries left me with limited mobility and neuropathy in my legs. I also developed quite severe restless leg syndrome which kept me, as well as my husband, awake at night. The doctor warned my husband that one day I would be in a wheelchair but I am not that kind of person. I was then prescribed an interferon and Ribavirin for a disrelated medical condition, which I believe led to development of chronic pain and eventually a diagnosis of RA. My knee hurt so much I would limp and it would lock up on me so I would lose my balance. My ankle was painful and swollen.

“At Okyanos, I had injections to my neck, left ankle and right knee as well as an IV of my cells. Since stem cell therapy I have much less pain in the neck and got mobility back in it. It’s nice to be able to get out of bed and make it through the day now. I am gardening again when before it would put me down for a couple days. I am no longer limping due to my knee, and my ankle no longer hurts. I still get some swelling but I think that is just from sitting too long doing my desk job. My neuropathy has improved from during the day and night to just at night, which I think is from sitting all day. My restless leg syndrome is nearly gone, I have reduced my pain meds by about 75% and no longer take Ambien for sleep.

“I had also suffered from diagnosis of fibromyalgia about 3 years ago which I missed so much work from. I could not get out of bed in the morning to even get to work because I had widespread pain throughout my entire body. I just never knew when it would come on. I now am almost totally free of that.

“I thought the staff were wonderful. Very caring, very much in tune with what my problems were.”

Why Stem Cells for Neck Pain and Other Chronic Pain Disorders?

In looking at the potential of stem cells for pain neck pain and chronic pain issues as a whole, it is important to understand the underlying factors of inflammation and tissue or nerve damage which often accompany long-term, persistent discomfort. Adult stem cells offer a comprehensive approach to tackling complex chronic pain disorders for their abilities to:

  • Address inflammation
  • Stimulate tissue repair/regeneration
  • Prevent further or premature cell and tissue death
  • Reduce scarring
  • Modulate abnormal immune response, as is present in RA and other chronic pain conditions
