The Okyanos Center for Regenerative Medicine is located in the city of Freeport on Grand Bahama Island, about 60 miles from the US coast of Florida or one short, direct flight from Miami. Our team is dedicated to ensuring a positive experience both while you enjoy the island and while under our care. Watch our video for tips on how to plan for your visit.
About Grand Bahama Island
The official language of The Bahamas is English, and the currency used is the Bahamian dollar which is equal to one US dollar. As a result of this fixed exchange rate, US dollars are widely accepted on the Island.
The Bahamas are a medically regulated jurisdiction, with a strong focus on safety coupled with a commitment to accelerating medical care and innovation for patients under careful oversight. Regenerative medicine and stem cell therapies remain highly unregulated throughout the world. For patients this translates to insufficient safety standards, zero facility inspection and no oversight of the resultant cell product(s) for purity and viability. Okyanos is proud to have been the first cell therapy facility to receive approval from the Bahamas National Stem Cell Ethics Committee (NSCEC) under legislation passed in 2013 which allows and regulates the use of patients’ own adult stem cells in the treatment of certain chronic conditions. In order to maintain accreditation, Okyanos has routine regulatory oversight and inspection to ensure safety.
Our Patient Concierges are committed to the ease and comfort of your travel to The Bahamas. We are pleased to offer our patients complimentary accommodations at the beautiful Lighthouse Pointe at the Grand Lucayan Resort as well as ground transportation to and from airport and facilities during your time on the Island.
Our dedicated travel agents at CrissCross Tours & Travel, Inc., are available to assist with additional travel needs.
