Degenerative Disc Disease (Post-Spinal Fusion Surgery)
West Palm Beach, FL
Treated in May, 2015
After years of discomfort, spinal fusion surgery and an onerous period of recovery, Britni discovered the option of stem cell therapy for back pain. She traveled to The Bahamas to undergo cell therapy in May, 2015, seeking an alternative to what she saw as a future of invasive back surgeries.
Here, Britni shares how Okyanos Cell Therapy helped her return to her active life.
“There was hardly any down time…”
“This past May, 2015 I did cell therapy at Okyanos. I have since returned to playing tennis and boating with very little pain which is a wonderful relief since I had to stop pretty much all activity prior to the stem cell treatment.
“Five years ago I had back surgery of my L5-S1. It was major two-part surgery where they first went in through my back then through the front. (It was called circumferential fusion.) The surgery went well and I was fine until the fall of 2014. My back pain started to return and I knew the road I was heading back down—another surgery of L4-L5, and then probably another, and another… And I did not want to do that again, or at least only as a last resort. I am a very active person so the constant pain was not only obviously uncomfortable but also draining both mentally and physically.
“I was then introduced to the option of stem cell therapy for my back. After much research and thought I decided to go for it. There was hardly any down time which was wonderful compared to months and months or even up to a year of recovery from surgery. I would strongly recommend a stem cell treatment to anyone, and back surgery only as a very, very last option.”
Non-Surgical Alternative: Stem Cell Therapy for Back Pain
Stored in your adipose (fat) tissue is a type of stem cells known as mesenchymal stem cells, or MSCs. These cells could be likened to an injury-specific “pharmacy” which can identify and correct areas of the body in need of repair.
These adult stem cells are commonly referred to as “repair cells” for their ability to address spine and joint injury, their primary functions being:
- Accelerated tissue repair
- Stimulated tissue regeneration
- Decreased inflammation
- Modulation of immune response
- Prevention of cell death
- Creation of new blood vessels
Utilizing your own adult stem cells, we are able to put your body’s own natural biology and healing capabilities to work for you through our minimally-invasive approach.
